I'll give 10-21 another listen. I've never found anything to get excited about on any of these shows. Something seems to be off with their playing.

The mojo working on 10-21-78 should be on the all time list

I was there...complaining loudly; they just never got on track as result.

;)

[Funny that Grendel always mentions how lucky I was but that you don't agree w him on this run...]

I went to those three. So it was you, huh? You didn't like the travelogue slide show from Egypt?

Actually, I am sure they were fine...I recall it was Tu thru Th or some such? Maybe I just skipped the weekend? Dunno, but I think it was a set of mid-week dates cause I recall it coming during school at Cal. I do remember they got energetic during INaMir, jumping around a bit, and showing more life than usual...one of the nights anyhoo.

My biggest disappointment with the GD was not following through with what they started in 1975. I find it hard to understand how the amazing shows on 8-13-75 & 9-28-75 were followed by 6-3-76 (was it the persian?). I've come to enjoy 1976 more than I used to but I still cant help but image what they would have sounded like had they stayed with the Blues for Allah stuff. Perhaps that's why you were complaining and FWIW Grendel came up with 1 song from the whole run to make his best of list.

Hey, this feels like the old times with you, Strat and Grendel around here. But where's Cliff telling us that all these shows suck anyway?

I miss that old grizzled voice of dissent too...of course it wasn't for Cliff I'd never have discovered some of the early day gems like the Dark Star from 10/31/71 or my favorite DS ever: 10/25/69

I was just thinking about this the other day...when they came out and played that odd set at SNACK, in March, 75, we were stunned. WTF?

Then, Jun and Sept were much more varied, with throw back material, but to be honest, it was a real shift for us, having arrived hopeful to see the DEAD of ~ 71-73 and finding something altogether different.

I never got over that, actually, but I do agree there was a difference, and I always say I liked 75 more than any other yr (75-82) as a result (so, I guess I am agreeing with you).
